>Turtles, Dirt and Friends. Oh My!

>     Hello Everyone! Happy Saturday!

I have no finished project to show today, no new pics or anything else. My plan for today is to go outside and make a habitat for the turtles. I have four red eared slider turtles, all acquired over the summer. There are two “pairs”, each pair having come from a different family. Kiki and Pepe came to me from my neighbor and Tina and Charlie came from my boyfriend’s son. Anyway, they are swimming, paired into two large tanks, and they really need to be able to get onto some land. Or, they will eventually die.  😦
There will have to be two habitats because there is a very good chance they will fight if I put them all together. And, I don’t know how to break up a turtle fight…..
Since I don’t have it together this weekend, I would like to introduce you to some of my cool bloggy friends.  They are:

Sea Kettle Diaries

Man + cat from the Kettle

Sea Kettle Diaries is the story of a super sweet New England teacher living in an 1811 farmhouse. Sigh. My dream.

Never Enough Thyme Creations

What a beautiful picture, huh?

Never Enough Thyme Creations is written by a faux finisher. She has some super cute Halloween stuff up right now.

I have other cool friends not introduced, they are a few cool mommies and a talented writer. Those introductions will be made in the near future but until then, you can always find them on my sidebar if you just can’t wait.
Wishing everyone a happy and safe weekend! I’m going to play in some dirt now.

>Geordi’s Stomping Grounds

>Hello Everyone!

I was looking through other blogs over the weekend and I came across Kirsty’s blog You Had Me At Bonjour. Kirsty lives in Southern France and I am so insanely jealous. But, then I thought, I live in California and spend a lot of time in the Santa Clara Valley. Location of Silicon Valley. I am close to Yahoo, Google and Ebay. But, I am a country girl at heart. And, I heart the south end of the Santa Clara Valley.

>Ideas

>Hello Everyone!

I recently went “shopping” at the Home Goods / TJ Maxx store near my work. I was only “shopping” and not shopping because I left my wallet at home 😦
Not that I could afford what I saw anyway. But it did give me some great ideas for future projects!

Love these!
Is there a chicken theme? Some decoupage over old fence boards may be in my future.
Could you see a variation of this using an old window and some placemats?

This is delightful.

Very rustic looking.
Michael’s carries glass paint. I may be doing something like this for Christmas gifts.

Now I am armed with ideas for gifts! I only need to remember my wallet next time…..

>I Love My Camera

>Hi Everyone!

I went out walking today to a different part of my regular trail. I don’t know why I haven’t done this before!

Flowing toward San Francisco Bay
Fall color California style
What a beautiful spot for a playground. You cannot see from this pic but the bay is visible in the distance.

I nearly always take my camera with me to catch these great shots. I drool over all of the fabu cameras I see on the internet, with their different lenses and high tech options. Someday. What I do use, though, is an awesome little point and shoot that fits in my jacket pocket. And, it has a wrist strap so I don’t accidentally drop it into the river. I love that it uses an SD card for the memory and it takes AA batteries. I put an 8GB card into it and it stores everything I take. That is, until I fill up the card. I am a little more than halfway.

Canon Powershot A1000IS 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Grey)
Isn’t it a cutie pie?

I bought mine for about $120.00 at Walmart about a year and a half ago. Now, I am seeing them on Amazon for around $50.00. That is a smokin’ deal for a 10MP camera!

>Antique Door

>Hi Everyone!

I am sure that everyone remembers my antique door. It is the one that I hang everything off of when taking photos.

My intention was never to use it as a backdrop, although I think it did a smashing job of it. I had planned to mount a mirror and key hook with a little shelf. It didn’t quite turn out that way either. But, I think it looks cool now. I just wish the photos did it more justice.

The mirrored candle holder was a Z Gallerie piece that I found at the Salvation Army. I had this sitting on my kitchen counter for a couple of months while I thought about what to do with it. Glad to have a home for it now. The hook rack was also a Salvation Army find from a couple of years ago. This has always been used but not so prominently. I think they go well together. The door is an antique, originally from a Gilroy winery. It was given to a friend of mine years ago and now she has given it to me. Score!

>Shhhh. It’s a Christmas Gift for my Niece

>Hello Everyone!

I just got finished with the cutest bench for my niece for Christmas. I scored this bench at the Salvation Army for $3.10.

The leopard print top is velvet. Delish!

The bench was a bit ’80’s-licious for me. In fact, the paint had my attention so much that I didn’t notice at first the bunny shape of the sides.
I sanded the whole thing and painted it glossy white.

White bunnies

While I let the paint dry, I took apart an old bed pillow for some seat padding. I just carefully unfolded the poly material until I had the right measurement. For a more professional look, it would be much better to go with new quilt batting or foam seats lets face it. This bench is for a 5 year old. And, I’m cheap.

Pillow guts
I sewed the front and back of the velvet top to make a longer strip of material. Using my staple gun I drove a few staples through the pillow guts to keep it from slipping. I then stapled the velvet material all around (including the bottom).

Oops. I didn’t pay attention to the way the velvet lays. Hopefully the sister and niece won’t notice.

I think the bunnies look pretty snazzy now.

>Eek-ing Out Halloween Decorations

>Hi Everyone

I have been seeing such good halloween posts on my friend’s blogs and I was feeling a bit inadequate because I have not decorated at all for halloween. Check out this cool shadowbox over at Flamingo Toes.

Flamingo Toes Shadowbox

At the Walmart a few nights ago, my daughter begged me to buy here these foam stickers. I let her get them because I decided that I could eek out a few cute decorations with these.

I just stuck these onto construction paper into cute pictures. I layered some of the stickers. I wouldn’t have thought of that when I was 12.  Probably everyone else would have…
Anyway, here is what I came up with.

It was fun to act 12 again.
