>The Academy Awards

> Hey Everyone!

Actually, this is not about last night’s awards show. I didn’t even watch. I only looked at a couple of the fashion pages this morning…..
This is about an incredible score, obtained while shopping my boyfriend’s house. I had actually seen this a while ago and then it disappeared. I was a little beside myself, I wanted it back so badly!!! Chris (you’re my hero, babe) found it with his packed books yesterday. The item?

>Show and Share Sunday

>Hi Everyone!

As you may (or may not) know, I have been waiting for the snow to come to my town <3.

It did snow for 2 hours in Gilroy though, just an hour over the hill and where I volunteer my time on Sundays. Bummer that it couldn’t have happened today….. Oh well, we did have some spectacular sunshine here in Los Banos yesterday, I took my new camera out for a drive and got some amazing photos.

Almond blossoms

Almond orchard.

I also finished another skirt-to-purse. I used half of the skirt and added some denim to the top, as well  as denim straps. I retained the original pleats on this skirt, making the pleats off center on the purse. I hand sewed the straps and hand sewed them in place. I added a fun little scrappy denim flower to the side, to hide a seam.

The skirt split in two. This was a Talbots skirt that I found at the thrift store. Fromie-kitty helped.

I flattened the bottom and added denim to the top.

I hand sewed the straps. Because I was breaking all of my sewing machine needles. 😦

The original skirt pleats are still here.

I hand sewed the straps on.

My scrappy little flower. I frayed the edges then added some fray check.

This print is just adorable, isn’t it?

>Greek Muumuu and My Styx Tee

>Hi Everyone!

Here is a little of what I have been working on lately. I have been powering through my piles of thrifted clothing that have been waiting to be reborn into something new, fun and cool!

This scarf below is cut from an old T-shirt. Jennifer at Peas and Crayons has the tutorial.

I had seen this in an issue of Glamour magazine and thought it looked cool. Then I saw it on Jennifer’s Peas and Crayons blog. It was just fate, I guess. This is an old Styx t-shirt that I had found in the clearance section of Target a while back. It served me well as a fun T and now is is serving me again as a funky scarf.

I cut the purse piece from a pattern and sewed it all together.

I had so wanted to keep the purple dress as it was and wear it. But, it was a muumuu from Greece (didn’t know they did that there…) and muumuus only make me look like I am in the last trimester of pregnancy. Not a good look for someone who had their last baby 12 years ago. I didn’t hem the straps, rather ran a line right onto the fabric to allow the edge to fray and not go crazy. The purple dress is sewn on top of the denim. The band at the top was the neckline detail from the dress. I do believe that there will be a large denim and purple flower going on the side of this purse. I will post photos when that happens.

The greek mumu.

These are just for fun. This is the remnants of a fennel flower. The seeds are gone and just the skeleton remains.

Grass bush of some sort. I forget what it is. These grow wild at the marsh, I don’t know if they are indigenous or if they are escaped from someone’s landscaping…..

Happy Friday Eve! Our forecast here is calling for snow tomorrow night. SNOW!! I am beyond excited, we don’t get snowstorms where I am in California (in the valley). Hopefully it sticks and doesn’t melt away before I wake up in the morning. I am hoping to get some photos to prove it 😉

>Newbie Blog Hop

>htHi Everyone!

Marni at Sassy Sites is hosting a blog hop for newbies like me who have been blogging 6 months or less.  My 6 month blogiversary is in March so I am still in (insert a big Yes! and an arm pump here). So, for those of you who don’t know Crafty Geordi, or who haven’t had the time to look back, here is Crafty Geordi in a nutshell.

My name is Christine and I have been using the moniker Geordilynn as my online ID since 1999. Geordilynn is the name of my 27 year amazon parrot. So a name with Geordi in it was just natural to me. Crafty Geordi is a craft blog with some photos and participatory blog posts (such as this one).  Here is a look back at the past five months, this will really tell the story of Crafty Geordi.

Here is my first post from September 8, 2010.

I took this abandoned tool cart…..

…and turned it into a kitchen island. I use this island every day, it has made my kitchen much more efficient, albeit a little crowded at times.

I enjoy furniture makeovers. Since this post, I have found a pull handle that matched the knobs. This piece is my nightstand now.

Salvation Army score.

I discovered spray adhesive and Mod Podge.

You can check out this trunk here.

And, I have been playing around on the sewing machine. Most of my materials come from clothing that I have picked up at the thrift store. Making old things new and fun again really challenges my creative self.

This was made from a denim dress and a maternity top. Check it out here.

Crafty Geordi has a younger sister blog called Adventures With Sally Ann. This is where I showcase my thrift store, garage sale and found scores.

On Adventures With Sally Ann, you will find things like this maternity top, upcycled into the above purse.

This first (almost) six months has been fun, with a lot of experimentation and finding my bloggy groove. I have met some awesome people and have participated in some fun games and a heartwarming fundraiser. Since the first six months have been so awesome, I am looking forward to what the coming years hold in store.  I do hope that I will pick up some new friends to join me along on this ride.

>Virtual Coffee

>Hi Everyone!

I am linking with Lucky Number 13 for virtual coffee.

If we were having coffee I just might let you talk more because I am wiped out. I have been staying up too late while satisfying my artistic side……
I would share photos of my granddaughter’s first birthday party. I took 147 photos. I’ll only torture you with a few.

Miz A and I

Miz A is Chris’s son’s daughter. I am grandma only by girlfriend association to her grandpa. That’s okay, I’ll take it! Isn’t he a handsome grandpa??

Baby in a bag. I’d like to order one, please.

Isn’t her peacoat adorable?

Auntie made this hat for her. She calls it her Jane hat.

Your turn. What’s up in your world?
