>Tropical Print Scarf

>

Hey Everyone!
I don’t know if anyone has noticed but I am super into scarves lately! And, not those dime-store polyester kind either (yuck.). Truth be told, the polyester electrifies me and makes my hair stand up, or at the very least, stick to my face. Plus, they aren’t big and chunky like I have been seeing on TV lately. Genevieve Gorder wears them a lot.

Anyway, I love them long and thick in gauzy or flow-y material, either solids or prints. Scarves just give a style injection to my normally very B.O.R.I.N.G. wardrobe. Since I am so picky I found that I like to make them myself. They begin as a dress or skirt purchased from the thrift store. Then they meet the scissors. Then they get hemmed. Easy as pie, right?

The dress. I picked this up from the Salvation Army last month for a coupla bucks.

All I did was to cut strips of fabric the long way, making sure to center the pattern.

I stitched two lengths together to make the desired length. I then hemmed the whole thing.

So easy and now I have a cute summer-y scarf.

>Venting

>Okay, I gotta vent. I just watched a mother almost hit her kinder age child with her lifted truck. She dropped her kid at the curb of the school and started to roll away as the child was trying to get back into the truck. I waved her down and when I told her that the child was there, she said she didn’t see her. DUH! The truck is way to high to see anyone!! Aaarrrgggggggggggggggg! When did we become so busy/lazy that we cannot take a minute to make sure that our child makes it safely to school?

>Patriotic Throw Pillow

>Hey Everyone!

This past weekend Chris went through his old clothes that he hasn’t worn in a while. He actually gave me one of his favorite polo shirts! But not to wear, oh no! That shirt is hideous.

I don’t care how cool the concept is. This is an ugly shirt.

So I did what any self respecting upcycler would do. I turned it into a throw pillow! I have some feather filled inserts and I simply turned the shirt inside out and (starting from the bottom) pinned three sides closed then stitched the sides. I trimmed the excess fabric and turned it right side out. I hand stitched the remaining side closed, using a hidden stitch.

Now this is cool!

Even Chris likes it. Now I can enjoy this “shirt” and not cringe when I see it. Thanks Chris!

>Christine’s Vanity Tuesday Post 3 – Ten on Tuesday

>Hey Everyone.

This is installment three of Christine’s Vanity Tuesday. To see the other two, check here and here.
Right now its time for:

Photobucket

Well, I’ll tell ya what. I have a serious case of the munchies today. So what better Ten on Tuesday than a list of my favorite foods!!! These are all foods that I either eat every single dingle day or wish that I could!

Sushi!!!! Oh, I love sushi.

Pho, aka, Vietnamese noodle soup. So good.

Roast Chicken. Yum

Chocolate. This is daily. Chris and I split a bar every evening.

I eat so many bananas that I think I am turning yellow. At least 2 per day and this doesn’t include my breakfast smoothie.

Two buck chuck. To wash down the chocolate.

Guava. For me, its very good for the digestion. To put it politely…..

Smoothies. Every weekday. This week it is bananas, orange/mango juice and coconut milk. Sometimes I take out the juice and add cocoa powder instead.
Cassava, aka Yuca. So delicious.

In N Out Burger! Yum, yum, yum. I could so eat this daily. My burger is double meat, no cheese, no spreads and protein style. In regular english this means two patties, hold cheese, no bun no spreads, onion okay and wrap the whole thing in lettuce leaves. And, allergy burger. Yes, these guys will actually cook the burger on a separate burner to avoid contaminating the food!! Oh, and the fries. Don’t even get me started on those fries.

And, there you have it. My fave foods. Now I gotta go peel a banana.

>Christine’s Vanity Tuesday Post 2 – Virtual Coffee

>Hey Everyone!

This is my Me day, post 2. To see the first one, go here.

Photobucket

Now we are going to enjoy a cup of virtual coffee. Mine will be decaf with almond milk. Coconut milk is good too. Mmmmmm. GULP! Now I need a refill!!

Okay, settled in with our coffee. If we were really sitting down to coffee we would talk about you first. It cannot be all about me, right? Then I would tell you about my plans to quit my job. June 3rd will be my last day. There, I said it. This is rather risky because, after all, I am google-able. I kinda don’t want to get the boot before June, I want to wait until the kids are out of school. The way I see it, if I don’t make a single dime, I can live for 4 months with what I have saved. I don’t want to burn it up now.

“Are you crazy?!?”

you might ask. Well, yes, I suppose so. After all, we are in a recession. I don’t care what the “experts” say about being in recovery since 2009. I am just not seeing it. I feel crazy for even considering walking away from a steady for now salary (there is a very good chance that I will be laid off soon anyway. But that is later in the summer. It just doesn’t jive with my own timeline). My dilemma is this: I spend 5 hours a day in the car. I am finding myself more frequently depressed (my old boss called me on this just a few minutes ago. I had no idea that I was giving off a vibe.), exhausted and I just cannot shake this flu. Its been 10 days now. This isn’t a pity party, it is just me justifying walking away from my job. But the big thing is – I know full well that I am headed toward a heart attack if I keep up with this pace. My adrenal system is super funky right now and I cannot make right. My plan is to work from home and I am super excited!!! I am already getting my feet wet with Ebay resales and I am going to open an Etsy store. And, fit in some freelance work if I should need to. Am I scared? No, not really. I have taken huge chances such as this before and it has worked out. I do have a very healthy dose of nervousness but mostly excitement. I cannot wait!
I have been working on my sewing skills so I make good, high quality merch for my store. I found this skirt at the Salvation Army and totally fell in love with the urban camo print! But it was about 5 sizes too big. I took it in and even though it still ended up a size too big I love how easy and comfy it is. My daughter did a “double take” this morning when she saw my outfit, she thought it was too much.

Um, yeah. I am still working on the timer option. I suppose I could pull the tripod from the trunk of the car. That makes too much sense tho. But you get the idea. Skirt, red silk cardi and leather boots all second hand. Black tee from Kohl’s.

Hallooooo?

Its officially spring. The swallows showed up yesterday. Yes, there are birds in this photo, just look closely.

>Christine’s Vanity Tuesday Post 1 – Hoo Am I?

>Hey Everyone

Yay, today its all about ME! Mememememememe. Hehe. I’ll start with:

NightOwlCrafting

1. What is your favorite magazine?

Sunset (a west coast magazine) or This Old House.

2. What color are your eyes?

Baby poop. Really, they are dark green with some brown. One of my sisters has the same color, we both think it looks like something that comes from a small child. Our other sister has dark, clear, coffee brown.

3. Do you go to the dentist on a regular 6 month schedule, or do you put it off?

Ummmmmmm. Its been a while. About when I realized that dentists are salespeople too and I got tired of receiving (and paying for!) unnecessary treatments.

4. Do you use anything to make your house smell good?

ex: candles, spray,etc…

My house often smells of man farts and cat litter. We just keep it real.

5. Do you have any pets?
Cats, dogs, rabbits, a parrot, a hamster and turtles.
