>Show and Share Sunday

>Hi Everyone

Welcome to another Show and Share Sunday! Today, rather than an actual craft, I am sharing our free speech rights in action. This past Friday, Gunderson High School in San Jose, California had their third showing of The Laramie Project, a play about the brutal torture and murder of Matthew Shepard, . The Westboro Baptist Church had scheduled a protest at Gunderson High for Friday evening. Many kids from Gunderson, as well as many parents, a veterans group and some local LGBT groups staged a counter protest. For the uninitiated, Westboro Baptist is a hate group disguised as a church. Most of the parents, as well as the school staff, expected a no-show from Westboro and this is indeed what we got. More importantly, the kids got a valuable lesson in our First Amendment rights, staged a peaceful demonstration and had a good time doing it. My son told me that later that night, he had the group (now down to about 150 kids) singing the national anthem and then giving a moment of silence for those who had made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our Constitutional rights and for those victimized in hate crimes.

Local veterans group. Exciting to have these guys here!

Fly!

My awesome son. I am so proud of him!

My awesome boyfriend was there too!
Remember Matthew Shepard.

So many news groups there! This one taped right in front of us. It was dark, I didn’t want to flash his eyes while he was taping…..

So now its time for you all to share what you’ve got. Projects, recipes, counter-demonstrations, bring your besties! Come as you are, the party goes on all week.
