>Hi Everyone! Happy Easter!
Last night I saw the movie Food Inc. The movie was a bit of a shocker and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. High schools are now showing it to students (I had gotten the recommendation from my son who is a junior). There are a few parts which are disturbing to view (fair warning here) but these are things that I already knew about. What shocked me was the sheer politics involved in food sales and production, how enormous the corn industry is and how much oil is involved in the production of beef. This movie reminded me that:
I need to plant my garden!
My backyard has a rather funky set up. It is mostly cemented in and there are holes in the cement for planting trees (presumably). The previous owners of the house had put half barrels in these holes and put cement blocks around them. Chris and I pulled one of these barrels out of the hole and I planted some zucchini in the barrel. In the hole I mixed in some topsoil mixer to get it ready for some tomatoes. I planted some tomato, zucchini and spaghetti squash seeds. Hoping these sprout!
|This is what was happening around the barrels. We removed some of the blocks from around this one. These blocks and barrels are very attractive to black widow spiders. No bueno!!
|This barrel came out of the hole and got zucchini planted. Tomatoes will go into the hole.
Now its your turn to show the rest of us your scores, accomplishments and whatever else ya got.
Come as you are, bring your besties and join along. It goes on all week.
